The following is a story that we received from Joe Guglielmo.  The story is about Bobby Doss and the anglers that fish in his Pacific Coast Region.  Bobby and Rachel are two of the nicest and most gracious people you will ever meet.  If you have ever attended one of our North Team Classic Award Ceremonies, you have witnessed "First-Hand" the love Bobby's anglers have for him and Rachel!  Bobby has been a tournament angler for about 40 years.  Bobby is currently undergoing chemo treatments on a second round of battling a cancer around his eye.  Bobby is going to beat this and be back on the water very soon!  Please keep Bobby in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!

Operation SPOT LOCK!

My good friend, Bobby Doss, had been planning to purchase the Minn Kota Ultrex Trolling Motor once he received a ‘clean bill of health’ from his doctors. After undergoing several rounds of radiation, Bobby learned the treatment had not worked. The cancer was back, and he would now require chemotherapy. I could see the impact this had on Bobby and his wife Rachel, and I had an idea. But I needed help.

On Monday August 20th, I went to Jim's Pro Bass to see if Jim Slusher could help me. I told him about Bobby and asked him about raising funds to purchase the trolling motor. Jim said, “I can raise the money in a day. Everybody loves Bobby". Jim made two phone calls. The first to Joey Reggio at Tackle Warehouse and the other to Todd Reccord at Rancho Grande Motors. Jim said the money will be there, and he sent me to Tackle Warehouse to pick up the trolling motor.

With the trolling motor in hand and phone calls being made, the next phase of the plan wasn’t easy. I had to pick up Bobby’s boat, tow it to Jim’s Pro Bass for installation while Bobby was having his first round of chemotherapy.

On Tuesday morning Bobby and Rachel were on the road heading to Santa Barbara for chemotherapy. As soon as I arrived at Bobby’s home, alarms were triggered. Bobby knew instantly that I was in his home because of the security cameras. He called me and said, “Joe. Are you breaking into my home?” My response was “Yes. But don’t ask why because I was just delivering a gift.” Now that was the least of my problems. Bobby’s neighbors came out, took pictures of my truck and proceeded to call the local Sheriff’s Department. Fortunately, I was able to explain the plan and delivered the boat to Jim’s Pro Bass.

Jim installed the motor, numerous donations were made, and Bobby's boat was returned without a scratch Tuesday afternoon. I placed a card on the front door and directed him to his garage/boat. Bobby said he and Rachel shed tears of joy. They could not believe the outpouring of love and support from the fishing community. Operation SPOT LOCK was a success.
