As the Webmaster for the American Bass web-site, I want to share with you a
little bit about the regional standings updates. While we are trying to develop methods to get
updates posted faster, there is still a ways to go. Let me explain.
As you have probably noticed, some of the updates are added very quickly,
some are not. A recent example is the South
PRO-TEAM Classic, which took place November 6/7. The results from this event were placed online the following Monday, the
8th. This was an event run by folks directly from the American Bass offices. This allowed
us to quickly process the results and have them posted to the site. As you also know, ABA
offers events in many regions, in many states. Most events have different Directors. As the
webmaster, I am learning that many of these Directors DO NOT have internet, or even basic email
access. Therefore, there is a long, MANUAL process that is used to record tournament
results. The results are processed by the local Director. The results are then forwarded
to the ABA Corporate offices, and ultimately to me for web-site updates. About the same
time I get these updates, the writers of event updates for the paper get them as well. I
generally have these updates posted the same day as received.

We will continue to work on ways to get these updates posted faster. There
are a couple of
things that I ask all ABA members to keep in mind. (1) This site is not intended
as a replace
ment for the monthly printed paper. The paper will continue to provide
more complete results
and details from all events. (2) For specific event information, all regional
directors are
available via telephone. They will be more than happy to answer any questions
you may have.
Also, if you have any specific ways to help your local director get these
results processed
faster, I'm quite sure they would be open to any and all suggestions. Let them
know that the
web-site is a resource you like to use, and would like to see things posted as
fast as possible.
In a perfect world, we would have all directors in a position to do self
postings, within hours of
any given event. However, at this point, we do not have the corporate resources
to have a
publicity person attend and update each tournament. On any given date, there
could be 1, 2, 3
or even more tournaments going in the many regions we support.
Again, please understand that we are aware of the situation regarding delays
in postings, and
we WILL find a way to get things done faster. At this point, I think we have
greatly improved
what is being posted here, along with the overall look and feel of the site.
Your comments
seem to indicate that you like the new look and feel. Please keep those comments
coming...
good or bad!
American Bass Webmaster
